Upper Elementary / Middle School
Ages 9-13
This class will be taught by a team including Michael Springer, Neal Jettpace, Christian Axiom and Troy Maynard.
This group will be focusing, during the first semester, on individual rights and what it truly means to respect these rights. We will explore this topic by looking at times in history when different groups were struggling for more freedom. We'll also look at our society now, and analyze how equal rights are in our own country. Finally, we will end the first semester by discussing the complex issue of whether we should get involved when a culture conflicts with human rights.
The team has intentionally left the second part of the year open so they can solicit input and feedback from the youth before planning the remainder of the year.
In order to help foster the sense of community we feel is so important, we will also plan several events and outings for the group this year. Some ideas that have been mentioned are attending a synagogue, a Game Day at the church, and a movie night/sleepover at the church. Again, this is something we will seek input from the kids about.
