Lower Elementary
Ages 6-9
Esther Rupert and Michael Springer will teach this class. We will take turns teaching one-month units, and each unit will have a new topic. We will follow a routine similar to last year:
Light the Chalice
• The children will light the chalice in their classroom with the flame carried down from upstairs.
- Joys and Concerns.
- Covenant
• They will recite their classroom covenant.
• Everyone has thoughts that are worth sharing, work that is worth doing to make our classroom peaceful and clean.
• The children will be free to choose any of several activities especially selected to engage them with the topic being covered.
- Clean-Up
- Final Activity / Reflection
• The children will come back together for an activity, and then reflect on the work they did that day.
There is no longer a “lesson” section of the class, because the lessons are in the work that the children choose during the activity portion of their time together and in the discoveries they share during reflection time.
We ask that parents not come to the classroom to pick up their child after the service since we may not be quite finished with cleaning up and reflection. The teacher will bring the children to Friendship Hall and make sure they find a parent.
